Historical Background

Herbal evening blends draw on centuries of European monastic and cottage-garden tradition, where calming herbs were infused together as a gentle prelude to rest.

Traditional purpose: Relaxation and an evening wind-down (traditional association).

Preparation

  1. 1

Combine the herbs in a small teapot.

  2. 2

Pour hot (about 95°C / 203°F) water over the blend.

  3. 3

Cover and steep for 5–6 minutes.

  4. 4

Strain into a cup; the lavender is potent, so taste and dilute if needed.

  5. 5

    Sweeten lightly if desired.

Serving: Sip slowly 30–60 minutes before your intended rest in a dim, quiet setting.

Substitutions

  • Omit lavender if its flavor is too strong
  • Add a pinch of rose petals for a more floral cup

Storage

Store the blended herbs in an airtight jar away from light; use within 6–12 months.

Safety Notices

Avoid if allergic to Asteraceae or Lamiaceae herbs. May add to the effect of sedative medications — consult a healthcare provider if pregnant, nursing, or taking medication.
